Tell me how long you’re in the parks and I’ll lay out the order that actually works.

Park Hopper note: These are where to start each day. Where you finish is up to you. With a hopper you can always jump to another park in the evening.

How to use the Disney World itinerary planner

Two inputs, and that is deliberate. Trip length is the single biggest factor in what order you should visit the parks, and ticket type changes how rigid that order needs to be. Everything else (the crowd calendar, your dining reservations, which resort you booked) matters at the margins.

  • Number of park days. Count only the days you actually have park tickets for. Arrival and departure days usually are not full park days, and treating them like they are is one of the fastest ways to burn out a family.
  • Ticket type. With a single park per day ticket, the order you get is your day. With a Park Hopper, treat it as where you start. Disney lifted the 2 PM hopping restriction in January 2024, so you can move between parks whenever you want.

Below, I’ve written out what the planner recommends for each trip length and why. If you already ran the tool, skip to your day count.

1 Day Disney World Itinerary

Magic Kingdom (and it is not close)

One day is a triage exercise. Magic Kingdom has the most attractions, the widest age range appeal, and the nighttime show people picture when they picture Disney World. Every other answer is defensible only for a very specific traveler: EPCOT if you’re adults chasing food and drink around World Showcase, Hollywood Studios if your family is there for Star Wars and nothing else.

Book Lightning Lane Single Pass for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON the moment your window opens. On a single-day trip you have zero margin to recover from a missed booking. Rope drop, take a mid-afternoon break if you have a resort room, and stay for the fireworks.

2 Day Disney World Itinerary

Day 1 Hollywood Studios → Day 2 Magic Kingdom

Two days is still highlights only. Hollywood Studios has the highest concentration of headliner attractions per acre of any park at Walt Disney World, so it earns the slot. Magic Kingdom closes the trip because trips are remembered by how they end.

Hollywood Studios is unforgiving of a slow morning. Rise of the Resistance is Lightning Lane Single Pass and books out fast at 7 a.m. Eastern. Slinky Dog Dash is the Multi Pass selection to grab first. My full sequencing for that park is in the best order to do Hollywood Studios.

3 Day Disney World Itinerary

Day 1 Hollywood Studios → Day 2 EPCOT → Day 3 Magic Kingdom

Three days is where people make the most expensive planning mistake at Disney World: trying to see all four parks. Something always gets shortchanged, and it is almost always Animal Kingdom. You end up with a rushed half day instead of a clean decision to skip it.

So the itinerary planner drops Animal Kingdom on a three-day trip. Hollywood Studios first while everyone is fresh, EPCOT in the middle (it is the most forgiving park for a mid-trip energy dip because World Showcase runs on walking and eating rather than sprinting), and Magic Kingdom last.

If Animal Kingdom is non-negotiable for your family, read whether Animal Kingdom is worth visiting during construction first. With DinoLand U.S.A. closed as of February 2026, the park is smaller than it was, which changes the calculus on giving it a full day.

4 Day Disney World Itinerary

Day 1 Animal Kingdom → Day 2 Hollywood Studios → Day 3 EPCOT → Day 4 Magic Kingdom

Four days is the cleanest itinerary Disney World offers. One park per day, no rest day needed for most families, and no park left out. The order runs in reverse order of emotional payoff, so each day feels a little bigger than the last.

Animal Kingdom leads because Flight of Passage wait times roughly double by 9:30 a.m. and the park closes earlier than the others. A day-one family with full energy handles that early start best. By the time you reach Magic Kingdom on day four, you’ve learned the transportation system, figured out your family’s pace, and you’re ready for the biggest park.

5 Day Disney World Itinerary

Magic Kingdom → Animal Kingdom → Hollywood Studios → EPCOT → Magic Kingdom

Five days unlocks the best structure available at Disney World: open and close with Magic Kingdom. Day one at Magic Kingdom is your shakedown day. You learn the buses, the app, the Lightning Lane rhythm, and where your family’s patience runs out. Then you see the rest of the World. Then you come back to Magic Kingdom on day five knowing exactly how to work it.

That second Magic Kingdom day is consistently the best day of a five-day trip, and it is the reason I recommend five days over four when the budget allows.

6 and 7 Day Disney World Itineraries

Six days: Magic Kingdom → Animal Kingdom → Hollywood Studios → Rest day → EPCOT → Magic Kingdom

At six days a rest day stops being a luxury and becomes structural. Three park days in a row is roughly where most families hit the wall, so the break lands on day four. Disney Springs, the resort pool, or a water park. It is also the right day to sort out any dining reservations you’ve been putting off.

At seven days the rest day slides to day five and a dealer’s choice day appears at day six. By that point in a trip the order genuinely stops carrying much weight. You’ve covered everything once, so chase whatever park is calling you, revisit favorites, or follow the crowd calendar.

8+ Day Disney World Itinerary

Past seven days, the itinerary planner still anchors the trip with Magic Kingdom at both ends and hands you the middle. Long trips reward flexibility more than sequencing. Build in a second rest day, plan an afternoon at a resort you’ve never visited, and stop trying to optimize. The whole advantage of a long trip is that you can afford a bad day.

The one thing that outranks your itinerary: when you book Lightning Lane. Lightning Lane Single Pass opens at 7 a.m. Eastern, 7 days out for on-site resort guests and 3 days out for off-site guests. Miss that window for Rise of the Resistance or TRON and no amount of park sequencing fixes it. More on that in why skipping Lightning Lane is costing you.

What the Disney World itinerary planner does not account for

I’d rather tell you the limits than let you find them in the parks.

  • Early Theme Park Entry. Which park gives the best return on early entry shifts the math, and Magic Kingdom in particular rewards it. See the Magic Kingdom early entry strategy.
  • Party nights and event closures. Magic Kingdom closes early for hard-ticket parties on many nights in fall and December, which can wreck a planned Magic Kingdom finale.
  • Dining reservations. A 5 p.m. reservation at a park you weren’t planning to be in overrides anything this tool tells you.
  • Season. September behaves nothing like Thanksgiving week. I broke down one of the most misunderstood months in Disney World in September.
  • Weather. Central Florida summer afternoons are a scheduled event, not a surprise. A rainy day at EPCOT covers how I handle it.

What to do after the itinerary planner

Park order is the frame. What you do inside each day is where most plans fall apart. Rather than following a fixed ride list, I plan around when to ride rather than what order to ride in, which is the framework behind every recommendation on this page.

Is the Disney World itinerary planner free?

Yes. No email required and nothing to install. Change your inputs as many times as you want.

How many days do you need at Disney World?

Four park days is the sweet spot. It gets you one full day at each park with no rest day required and nothing left out. Five days is better if the budget allows, because it lets you return to Magic Kingdom at the end. Under three days, plan to skip a park rather than rush all four.

Why does the itinerary planner almost always end on Magic Kingdom?

Trips are remembered by how they end. Magic Kingdom has the strongest nighttime show, the broadest attraction lineup, and the highest tolerance for a family that is running on four hours of sleep.

Does the itinerary change if I have a Park Hopper?

Less than you’d think. The planner still tells you where to start each day, because mornings are where the value is. Hopping matters in the evening, when you’re chasing a second fireworks show or a dinner reservation across property.

Should I really skip Animal Kingdom on a 3 day Disney World itinerary?

Usually, yes. Animal Kingdom deserves a full day and doesn’t reward a rushed one. If you’d rather see all four parks and accept a shorter day at each, that’s a legitimate choice. Just make it deliberately instead of discovering it at 2 p.m. on day three.
